Classically styled root beer/mock tortoise
Bakelite bangle bracelet. This gem is in very
good condition and nicely finished with a
slightly rounded edge which saves it from being
merely a slice of Bakelite and provides a little bit
of sophistication too. As with most root beer
and mock tortoise Bakelite, this bangle seems
to give back a warm, inviting glow as it catches
the light. It measures 15/16" in height and
nearly 1/4" in thickness with an inner diameter
of 2 1/2 inches. Tests positive with Simichrome.

This uniquely styled, red-orange Bakelite
bangle features a unusual flare shape on its
exterior side (see second photo) as well as two
horizontal grooves which have been machined
into its surface. It is 1/4 inch thick at its widest
point, which tapers to a thickness of
approximately 1/8 inch. The color is a pretty
red-orange persimmon shade. It measures 2
1/2 inches in diameter, 3/4 inch in height, is in
very good condition and tests positive with
Simichrome.

This classic Bakelite stretch bracelet is done in
alternating panels and beads of rich olive green
swirled with touches of black for a subtle
marbled effect. The Bakelite panel measures
3/4" in length and 15/16" in height; the matching
Bakelite beads measure 5/16" in diameter.
Each Bakelite panel is gently angled on its
exterior side, slightly curved on its interior side,
which allows the bracelet to hug the wrist gently
and comfortably. This bracelet tests positive
with Simichrome and is in excellent vintage
condition.

Neat set of two Bakelite bangles. The first is a
true spacer, measuring 1/8 inch in height and
about 1/4 inch thick in a swirled candy apple
red. The other is a little bigger, measuring 1/4
inch in height and 1/4 inch thick, in a swirled
butterscotch color. Both test positive with 409
and have an inner diameter of 2 1/2 inches. In
very good condition.

Pretty set of three Bakelite spacer bangle
bracelets - one cream corn yellow, one jade
green & the last a hard-to-find persimmon
color. Note the yellow one seems to have had
a harder life than the other two; there's a bit of
roughness to its interior edge (see picture two).
This does not affect the wearability of the
bracelet, of course, but it should be noted. All
test positive with 409 and all measure 1/8 inch
in height and 1/4 inch in thickness with interior
diameters of 2 1/2 inches. These are true
spacer bracelets and look great together or
perhaps to compliment other Bakelite bangles
in your collection.

Pretty brownish/burgundy Bakelite bangle
bracelet in good condition. Shows only minor
scuffing to its finish (not evident at first glance)
which isn't undue wear considering its age and
the type of jewelry but it should be mentioned
nevertheless. Tests positive with 409 and
measures 7/16 inch in height, 1/4 inch in
thickness, with a curved outer side and an inner
diameter of 2 1/2 inches.

This is a pretty interesting set. At first we
thought the large Bakelite beads in the bracelet
were scored with vertical lines at each end but
in fact the 'panel' portions of the bracelet are
comprised of three separate beads. Their
shape is rather distinctful and is mimicked in
the shape of the matching earrings. Both the
bracelet and earrings are 1 inch in height, and
the bracelet's 3-bead panels as well as the
earrings measure 7/8" in width. Certain of the
bracelet's beads have a darker, brownish color
to them which is not damage to the beads nor
to their finish but is a part of the Bakelite
material itself. The metal clips on the earrings
show evidence of usual and customary wear.
This set tests positive with Simichrome polish.

matching earrings. Done in marbled pumpkin
color Bakelite, marbled russet color Bakelite
and a deep chocolate brown Bakelite, the
bracelet measures 8 inches in total length and

slice measures approximately 1 7/16 inches in
height and 3/8 inch thick. The earrings are
done in marbled russet Bakelite with the clips

Light avocado green Bakelite stretch bracelet
with brass tone spacers and matching
earrings. Ten Bakelite wedges make up this
pretty bracelet, each measuring 1 1/4 inches in
height and a wee over 1/2 inch at the widest
part. The Bakelite wedges used on the
earrings have the same measurements.
There's a bit of age-appropriate finish wear to
some of the brass tone spacers and to the
metal findings on the earrings; otherwise, this
set is in very good vintage condition and
passes the 409 test with flying colors.

Wow! This fun Bakelite bracelet is chock full of
slices - so many that I couldn't get it to lay flat for
a length-wise photo! It has twenty Bakelite
slices, in four colors, suspended from a silver
tone chain. It appears that the lobster style
clasp may be a replacement. The Bakelite
slices each measure approximately 1 3/8
inches long and appear to be in a random
pattern. Please see pics 3 and 4 to see its
colors up close. In very good condition and
passes the 409 test.

Unusual carved Bakelite bangle bracelet. This
bracelet varies in thickness; at the top and
bottom edge it's translucent & a light root beer
in color. In the center, where the Bakelite is the
thickest, it's a brown color with the slightest
tinge of green. In excellent vintage condition &
passes the 409 test. Measures 1/2 inch high &
has an inner diameter of 2 1/2 inches. Although
it appears small in person, the diameter
measurement is standard. I have medium
wrists but fairly large hands and it fits fine. By
the way, my husband informs me that,
technically, this bracelet is 'machined' and not
'carved.' For our information :).

Bakelite chunk has a hold drilled through its top
with a wire inserted underneath the filigree
caps. The chain & other findings on this
bracelet are bright gold and it has the Bakelite
heaviness & the Bakelite "clunk." Measures 7
1/2 inches in length and each abstract Bakelite
chunk is between 1 inch and 1 1/4 inches in
length. My husband says this bracelet reminds
him of chunks of Irish Spring soap but we'll
ignore him. Instead,"Think Spring!"

This exquisite matched set provides that perfect

in warm variated tones of root beer/faux tortoise

There are four colors altogether - all marbled:
butterscotch, bright green, avocado green and
pumpkin. All test positive with 409. Vintage
unknown but definitely more contemporary than
what we're used to seeing, based upon the
brightness of the gold tone chain and the thin
slices of Bakelite (each measuring a little under
1 1/4" in length with a thickness of
approximately 1/4 inch). In very good condition.

These beautifully shaped rootbeer/mock
tortoise Bakelite dangling earrings are in very
good condition and test positive with
Simichrome. The pendant portion of the
earrings measures just a shade under 2 1/4" in
length and tapers from 1 inch at the widest
point to 1/2 inch. The overall length of the
earrings is 2 7/8 inches. The metal findings are
gold tone and show less-than-usual wear.

These darling earrings resemble fat little
bubblebees, although their actual colors are
Mississippi mud, swirled cream corn yellow,
and black. Both the Mississippi mud and
cream corn colors test positive with
Simichrome; the black does not, but if you know
black Bakelite, you also know this is
unsurprising. These dangle drop earrings
measure 2 inches in overall length, with the
little brown 'button' at the top measuring just a
shade under 1/2" in diameter and the laminated
Bakelite drop measuring 1 1/4" in length and a
little over 1/2" at its widest part. The clip back
portion of these earrings may be replacement
hardware, since they are shiny bright and
appear to have little to no wear.

Chunky mock tortoise shell Bakelite hoop
earrings with gold tone metal accents. Some
wear showing to the metal accents, made more
visible by the wonders of digital photography.
There appears to be a ding or chip along the
inner diameter of one of the earrings (see
earring on the left, picture #1) which does not
interfere with the appearance of the earring
when worn but we need to mention it in the
interest of full disclosure. These earrings
measure 1 1/8" in diameter and the Bakelite
hoop measures 1/2" thick at its widest (at the
bottom of the hoop). These earrings test
positive with Simichrome.
